Private Health Insurance with a Blue Choice Personal Plan
Blue Choice is a personal health insurance plan that you can customize to fit your needs. Choose Bronze, Silver, or Gold coverage levels to build a the insurance plan that's right for you. And you can upgrade each year with no medical review required.
Note, this is a medical reviewed plan. Prescriptions drugs for existing conditions may not be covered. However, this plan provides better coverage for those in good health.

Silver:

Guaranteed acceptance plans from Pacific Blue Cross are ideal for anyone who has medical costs and isn't covered through an employer plan. They are offered with no medical questionnaire. Choose from 3 tiers of plans to tailor coverage to suit your health needs and budget.
Health Benefits
Choose from Bronze, Silver, or Gold options for these coverage benefits:
- Life-time maximum: from $250,000 to $500,000
- Paramedical services like physiotherapy, acupuncture, osteopathy, and podiatry: from $500 combined limit /year - $500/practitioner; $30/session maximum
- Mental wellness services like psychologist or counsellor visits: $500 - 750 combined limit/year
- Vision care for prescription glasses or contacts (no bronze coverage)
- Silver: eligible every 2 anniversary years, $150/person every 2 years, $50 for eye exams
- Gold: Year 1-2: $150/2 years, years 3+: $250/2 years, $50 for eye exams
- Hospital accommodation for Silver and Gold plans: $195/day for private room, $165/day for semi-private room, max 60 days
- Medical supplies and equipment: $1,200 /year in years 1-2, $2,500/year in year 3-4, $5,000/year in year 5

Prescription Drug Benefits
Each option covers 80% of eligible expenses and aligns with BC PharmaCare formulary pricing or the cost of the lowest priced equivalent drug. The dispensing fee is $10 and you'll get a Direct Pay Drug Card so you can pay for prescriptions at the pharmacy, no need to submit a paper claim.

Blue Cross Group Conversion
A special feature of our health and dental plans is the conversion privilege.
If you have a Pacific Blue Cross-recognized Canadian group benefit plan, and your coverage ends because you retire, change jobs, or the company downsizes, you can apply for coverage under the conversion privilege.
If you qualify, Pacific Blue Cross will cover pre-existing medical conditions under the health plans. They will also waive the waiting periods for vision care and dental or denture coverage.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must:
- Apply within 60 days of the date on which your group coverage was cancelled,
- Have been covered under your group plan for the same benefits for at least 6 continuous months.
The effective date of coverage for the conversion plan will be the first of the month following the end date of your group coverage. Any claims before the effective date will not be eligible for coverage. Plan options cannot be changed once they are selected at the start.
The Blue Choice Conversion Plan offers the same coverage limits as the Blue Choice Plan.
Pacific Blue Cross Retirement Plan
When you retire, you're now responsible for all the costs that your employer once covered. Pacific Blue Cross retirement plans are the most comprehensive and flexible on the market. Choose your preferred level of coverage (Bronze, Silver or Gold) for health, prescriptions, and an optional dental plan.

- No wait times: use your plan and submit healthcare expenses as soon as your coverage begins.
- Guaranteed coverage for pre-existing medical conditions with no medical questionnaire required.
- No upper age limit.
- Upgrade your plan features on the plan anniversary date to meet future healthcare needs.

- Accidental death and dismemberment: $2,500 for primary plan holder (up to age 70 for bronze plan with $5,000 for 71+ years), $12,500 for spouse if no dependent children, $10,000 for spouse with dependent children, $2,500/dependent child, $3,750/dependent child if no spouse

Stand Alone Dental Plans
Pacific Blue Cross has designed a plan for those who want affordable dental coverage without purchasing a health insurance plan.
This plan is available to all residents of British Columbia and the Yukon. Pacific Blue Cross will reimburse you for claims or will pay your dentist directly. The plan has a sliding scale for reimbursement.
Dental Benefits
After a 3-month no-claims waiting period and a calendar year deductible of $100, it covers up to:
0–12 months -60%, $500/person per year
13–24 months - 70%, $750/person per year
25 months + 80%, $1,000/person per year
Eligible dental expenses include all necessary services by a dentist, dental hygienist, or denturist for the care and maintenance of teeth. Specifically, this includes:
- Diagnostic — 2 recall examinations every calendar year
- X-rays — the equivalent of one full-mouth series each calendar year (complete series x-rays are limited to once every 3 years).
- Preventive therapy — topical fluoride applications are limited to twice every calendar year
- Restorative dentistry — procedures to restore natural teeth to normal function using silver and tooth-colored fillings (front adult teeth only) and stainless steel crowns
- Scaling and root planing
- Prosthetic repair services to reline or repair fixed or removable appliances
- Routine extractions
The plan does not cover the cost of major reconstruction or prostheses for replacing missing teeth.
Travel insurance is only included in the Blue Choice plan. However, other plan members receive 10% off of Pacific Blue Cross travel insurance products.
